Frequently Asked Questions
+Do I need to know how to swim?
Basic swimming skills are required for safety. You don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer — just comfortable in the water. On your first day, you will complete a swim and tread test.
+Is there an age limit for scuba diving?
Kids as young as 8 can try our pool-based Try Scuba experience. Junior Open Water courses are available for kids starting at 10 years old.
+Can I rent scuba gear if I’m already certified?
Absolutely. We rent tanks, regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, and more. Just bring your certification card.
+Seasonal: Why Spring Lake?
We typically go to Spring Lake (The Meadows Center) in San Marcos by the end of October. Due to the seasonal temperature drop at our local dive sites, Mammoth Lake and Blue Lagoon, water temperatures can fall below 65°F.
Spring Lake is spring-fed with crystal-clear water that stays at a consistent 72°F year-round, making it much easier and more comfortable for diver training.
Getting certified at Spring Lake will add a $50 instructor travel fee to the regular price of Open Water. Each student is responsible for their own transportation and lodging. For more information about Spring Lake visit https://www.meadowscenter.txst.edu/
